Sažetak
Ultrasound has been used in the evaluation of peripheral (cervical, axillar and inguinal) enlarged lymph nodes in patients with malignant lymphoma. The purpose of our study is to asses ultrasound finding of previously untreated malignant lymphoma with different histopathological subtypes. In 49 patients ultrasound examination was performed (28 female, 21male, mean age 41 years). The histopathologic diagnosis and subtyping for each case was made according to the WHO classification. Common finding for Hodgkin disease and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma were hypoechoic masses, involvement of multiple nodes and spot and/or line echoes. Each histopathological subtype showed characteristic finding, but did not differ among different region in the same case. Hodgkin disease had a contour with a lobular pattern (18/20), septum-like echo (18/20) and tubular structure (16/20). In Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, especially in Follicular lymphoma there was characteristically spot and/or line echo pattern (18/22) and tendency for lymph node fusion (20/22). Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was distinguished from other types of lymphoma by the presence of irregular margins (5/5). There was only one case of Burkitt, s lymphoma and one case of Lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. The preliminary study suggest that ultrasound finding of lymph nodes infiltration in patients with malignant lymphoma appeared to reflect some characteristic histopathological structure in major subtypes and can be useful in the management of patients. Our preliminary findings need to be confirmed in larger patient groups before definite echo patterns can be correlated with histological subtypes.
