Sažetak
Mergers and acquisitions of oil companies were characterised the capital markets in the world at the end of the year 1998. When the Exxon Corp. and Mobil Corp. confirmed their plan to merge in a historic $80 billion deal it becomes clear that something very important occured in the world of oil business. Total value of the mergers and acquisitions in 1998/99 was $200 billion. That was the bigest wave of change in the american as well as in the world oil industry, from Standard Oil which was broken up, after the United States Supreme Court decission in 1911 because it violated antitrust laws. In this work the major mergers and acquisitions, concluded or announced during the winter 1998/99, are analised. The main characteristics of the oil business and the change of the world market structure are also analised. However, the recent mergers and acquisitions return the American Oil Major to the leading position among the oil majors in the world.
