Sažetak
Aim of this study is to assess incidence and outcome of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) after intensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses and equipping of 15 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in Split University Hospital during 2004. We conducted a prospective observational study in hospitalized patients during 2005, and compare them with results from 2003. Courses had attended over 500 nurses and 22 interns and residents. During the study period, there were 104 SCA patients, while in 2003. were 16 more. We had not notice survival rate increase (21.2% vs. 22.5% ; χ 2=0.06 ; p=0, 808). There were 3 survivors out of 7 CPR attempts with AEDs. That survival rate was not significant compared with other CPR attempts (13.6% vs. 24.4% ; Fisher's exact test ; p=0.162) and with traditional defibrillation (42.9% vs. 61.3% ; Fisher's exact test ; p=0.425). We conclude that AEDs equipping and intensive courses had not brought expected survival of SCA patients.
