Sažetak
Increasing demand for electric power motivates engineers to reconstruct the existing hydro-power plants (HPP) in the way to produce more electricity, especially in the periods when the demand for energy is the largest. The existing refurbishment of HPP Varaždin, located on the Drava river, anticipates the increase of the existing maximum installed discharge of 450 m3/s to the new maximum discharge of 550 m3/s. In this paper the simulation of advancing wave front moving upstream from HPP in the case of instantaneous decrease of discharge has been simulated. The simulation has been performed by use of HEC-RAS program. The developed model was calibrated on the existing measurement performed when a sudden decrease of discharge from 450m3/s to 0 m3/s occurred. The accuracy of the model has also been tested and described.
