Sažetak
The purpose of this case study was to compare the unique pattern of race pacing used in competitive rowing with a seemingly more efficient even pace pattern. Na elite oarsman performed the 6 min all-out test on a Concept II rowing ergometer simulating the workload pattern applied during the race, and repeated the test after two day rest, with constant workload equalling the mean power output in the first test. Spiroergometric data (power output, stroke cadence, HR, VW, VO2, oxygen debt) were recorded during the test and recovery, as were surface myoelectric signals from m. rectus femoris, m. vastus lateralis, m. vastus medialis, and m. erector spinae. the results suggest that the physiological pattern of race pacing used in competitive rowing is more advantageous not for the higher contribution of the aerobic and the anaerobic energy systems, but due to a higher efficiency. The EMG findings suggest that the recorded muscles during rowing ergometry do not respond as a unit with regard to neuromuscular fatigue patterns. It is possible that the development of neuromuscular fatigue during simulated rowing is mediated primarily by the vastus lateralis muscle.
