Sažetak
The paper presents the results of investigating sugar beet response to the natural growth stimulant Bio-algeen S 90, as expressed through the root yield and technological quality. Investigations were carried out in 2000 and 2001 on two different soil types, eutric cambisol (locality Zagreb) and pseudogley of mesoelevations (locality Vaška) in the Republic of Croatia. Bio-algeen S 90 was applied after sugar beet seeding at a rate of 2 L/400 L water per hectare in four treatments: 1) to the soil, 2) to the soil + in the 2-3 leaf stage, 3) in the 2-3 leaf stage, and 4) in the 2-3 leaf stage + 5-6 leaf stage of sugar beet. Yield and quality of sugar beet roots were greatly affected by the trial year and location. Application of Bio-algeen S 90 increased the root yield by 1.59 to 7.89%, and sugar yield by 2.08 to 8.97% in comparison to the control (without Bio-algeen S 90) ; however, the differences between treatments were significant only in the dry 2000. Of the parameters of sugar beet technological quality, Bio-algeen S 90 treatment had a significant effect only on the potassium content.
