Sažetak
Acue myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous group of disease involving differences in cell morphology, immunophenotype, clinical response to the treatment, and cytogenetic abnormalities. In this work we present the reuslts of cytogeneic analysis in 35 children with acute myeloid leukemia. The aim of our investigations was to determine the frequency and types of clonal chromosomal rearangements in our population of children with AML. The investigation was performed on slides obtained from a 24.hour peripheral blood or bone marrow cultures. For chromosome identification GTG- and CBG- binding method were used. A successful analysis was obtained in 32 (91.4%) children. In 30 children the analysis was performed at diagnosis and in two at relaps. Clonal chromaosomal aberrations were detected in 19 (63, 3%) children at diagnosis. The most frequent clonal abnormality was t(8 ; 21) identified in 6 (20%) patients, followed by aberrations involving chromosome 11 in 4 (13, 3%) cases. Trisomy 8 was identified in two and monosomy 7 in one patient. Beside these recurrent abnormalities some non-specific rearrangements were identified too. This study confirms the cytogenetic heterogenity of AML and need for additional study in order to gain more information on clonal chromaosomal rearrangements and its clinical significance.
