Sažetak
The subjects of my paper are sport and games as metaphors in English and Croatian language. The first part of the paper elaborates on the meaning of a metaphor, its definition, history, division and fields of meaning. Many theories have been developed about metaphors and many books have been written on that subject ; I tried to present them as concise and clear as possible. On the other hand, I have not found much theoretical explanation for the metaphors that derived from sport, but I have written one chapter about them in which I tried to shed some light on their origin and usage. The second part of the paper is a contrastive analysis of sports and games metaphors, which was made according to their metaphorical mappings.
