This book is a thematic and methodological follow-up of Kövecses’ Metaphor and Emotion: Language, Culture and Body in Human Feeling (2000, reprinted in 2003). It introduces a fresh angle to the study of metaphor by highlighting its universality and variation. The Preface and the Introduction are followed in the body of the book by four major parts with eleven chapters: 1. Universal metaphors ; 2. Dimensions of metaphor variation ; 3. Aspects of metaphors involved in variation ; 4. Causes of metaphor variation.
