Sažetak
Authors of the international group Connecting Art, introduced by this exhibition, are brought together more through a wish to co-operate than by an artistic idiom, meaning that they are engaged in a dialogue honouring their differences ; starting from generation and national differences and differences in cultures in which they were formed, to the ways of modern visual perception. The conventional concept of artists as vain loners falls through immediately. Although their overall work might be subsumed under „ the abstract way of expression“ , this is not crucial. In the foreground is their persistence on keeping the dialogue open (if only by way of Web mail) aiming to introduce their own artistic works not only to the wider public, but to their colleagues from other latitudes, as well and thus keep their interest and support. Therefore, this exhibition, in the heart of which is a complex theme of dialogue, opens not only by way of individual expressions, but in the sense in which Umberto Eco defined “ the open work” . The ongoing dialogue within the artefact itself ; the dialogue between the works of a single artist ; the dialogues going on between the works of the united and represented artists. And the relation with other “ users” additionally reorganises the entire idea, developing it into a new and complex conglomerate of connections and intentions. Much as sixteen represented authors differ between themselves, what they do have in common is painting of our visual surrounding, but also admitting that they are not immune to influences. Nearly all works define an author’ s position in relation to the confusion, frustration and hope for the 21st century. The subject of dialogue is an exceptional opportunity to reconsider one’ s own phases of artistic search, as well as a personal purge that every artist passes through. It is the dialogue, primarily with oneself, that confirms painting and sculpturing as a mental process. This exhibition proves that in creativity there are no rules regarding the ways of reaching the goal, except that everyone must find enough strength and courage to recognise the signs that are vital for him. Faith in communication and dialogue follow, which besides being common for the artists in Connecting Art, was equally challenging to them, as well.
