Sažetak
Breeding white-kernel maize in the Bc Institute for breeding and production of field crops was begun in early 1980-s. The first stage of breeding involved collection of all white material and testing for combining ability and relevant agronomic traits. The result of it are registered white-kernel hybrids Bc36w, Bc38w, Bc48w, Bc58w and the hybrid ALVOR, registered in Portugal. Along with this, by applying recurrent selection, development of white versions of the commercial lines and hybrids was started.
This work was aimed at testing some agronomic characters of the white versions of the hybrids Podravec 36, Bc462, Bc468, Bc592, Bc588 and Bc608R in comparison with their yellow counterparts.
The experiment was planted in Rugvica in randomized blocks, in three replications. The tested white-kernel hybrids produced average yield of 105.90 dt per ha, which is by 5.00 dt per ha more than what their yellow counterparts did. Grain moisture of the white hybrids was by 1.04 percent lower.
White version of the hybrid Bc592 was the only one to produce lower yield than the original by 1.61 dt per ha. However, this difference like all others were not statistically significant. Chemical analysis was also made for protein and fat content, but no regularity in differences between the white and the yellow hybrids was found.
