Sažetak
During the last fifty years function, role and perception of rural areas have been changed in 0numerous ways. Transformation has influenced economic base, social structures, „ natural“ and cultural landscape and resulted in new geographic reality of rural areas. As a consequence differentiation of rural areas has been even stronger. New economic activities, such as tourism, have been important mechanism of change. Both tourism and agriculture are strongly connected and dependent on natural and human characteristics of region. Their relation towards traditional activities (agriculture, forestry) is very significant for regional development. The way tourism and agriculture relate to each other has changed during the second half of 20th century. both also. Using Istra as an example, this paper will address some geographical aspects of relation between tourism and agriculture and their role in rural development.
