Within the frame of reference of Western culture the face is usually regarded as a most decisive identity mark. It is hardly posssible that before envisaging somene's face can we certain in recognizing its bearer. Promoted into being the safeguard of continuity of someone's insideness and outsideness, the face is not just habitual but is also a legal site of identification, as proven by its reproduction on various personal documents.
