Sažetak
In order to find the source for the vast infection with Trichinella spiralis of fatteners among a commercial farm a detailed study was performed. Detailed inspection of the incriminated farm was carried out with the special emphasis on food origin, presence of rats, origin of the pigs and sows, possible human influence and all other circumstances. The analysis revealed the evidence of a workplace sabotage with a high economic impact. Among 8297 fatteners even 1912 were found infected (23.04%) with the infection rate from 0.04 to 296. 96 LPG. Non easy detectable larvae burden (infection rate < 1 LPG) was found in 1414 animals. The distribution showed that only pigs fed through the closed feeding system with the concentrate, silage and liquid molasses were found infected. The percentage of positive animals varied between pig sties with the range from 17, 0 to 25, 7 % of animals. The highest percentage of positive animals (45 %) was found in the sty with animals fed only with concentrate without any liquid food. The incriminated concentrate was produced in the feed plant owned by the owner of the sabotaged pig farm. Even it is not completely proved it can be assumed that the sabotage was performed by disgruntled workers who probably voluntarily contaminated the concentrate with infected pig meat.
