Sažetak
Barać caves are karst phenomena of first class in the Croatian Dinaric karst. Scientific explorations and tourist evaluations of this caves started in the 19th century. The caves are located in the middle part of the Slunj karst plateau, which is mainly built of limestone and has typical characteristics of karst relief. On the smaller part of the plateau built of clastic sediments and dolomites, a surface fluvial network has been developed, i. e. fluviodenudational type of relief. On the contact of the permeable and impermeable rocks springs and ponors are situated. There are four caves. Three caves are fossil and dry: Gornja Baraćeva (520 m long), Donja Baraćeva (565 m long) and Nova Baraćeva (94, 5 m long). The active cave in the Baraćevac spring is 450 m long and channels are mainly full of water. The Barać caves have been formed by corrosion and erosion of the undergrond water stream which now flow trought Baraćevac spring cave. In the past Gornja, Donja and Nova Baraćeva caves also functioned as spring, but today these caves are dry and whitout hydrological function.
