Sažetak
Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood. It originates in cells of the neural crest and so can be found anywhere along the paravertebral sympathetic chain or in the adrenal gland. Survival rate in neuroblastoma correlates with disease stage, tumor histology and N-myc gene amplification. N-myc gene amplification, whjich cerrelates with prognosiis is not expressed in all cases of malignant neuroblastoma. These data suggest that other genetic factors and other oncogenes might be important for neuroblastoma development. In this study we investigated the expression of bcl-2 protoncogene in 20 cases of neuroblastoma. The expression of bcl-2 protooncogene in neuroblastoma was correlated to tumor histology. Bcl-2 is a protooncogene that promotes cell growth by inhibiting programmes cell death (apoptosis), a form of cellular demise common during normal neurogenesis. Immunocytochemical analysis using a monoclonal anti-bcl-2-antibody revealed that 8 of 20 patient speciments stained stongly positive for bcl-2,3 moderately and 5 were weakly positive. The correlation between level of bcl-2 expression with histologic types of neuroblastoma showed that high expression of the bcl-2 was closely associated with unfavorable histology tapes. These results, also, suggested that bcl-2 proto-oncogene or progression of malignant neuroblastoma. We suggest that further investigation and other markers in a larger series of tumors should be performed.
