Sažetak
Obesity induced hypertension is related to sympathetic overactivity as well as to excess renal sodium reabsorption and a hypertensive shift of renal pressure- natriuresis. Leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormon that acts in hypothalamus to regulate appetite, energy expenditure and sympathetic nervous system outflow, and it adversely shifts the renal pressure-natriuresis curve leading to relative sodium retention. Some studies have proved that there is a positive correlation between blood leptin levels and high blood pressure in obese subjects, implicating that most subjects with high blood leptin level will have higher blood pressure. Our hypothesis is that hypertension might influence blood leptin level as a feedback mechanism, regardless of the BMI. We will carry out a study to establish the difference between leptin levels in hypertensive people and non-hypertensive people with the same BMI. The study will include 50 hypertensive and 50 non-hypertensive men and women with the BMI between 30 and 35 kg/m2. Leptin level in blood will be measured between 7 and 7:30 a.m. using radioimmunoassay with polyclone antibodies.. We hope that the results will show possible influence of hypertension on obesity and blood leptin levels.
