Sažetak
Republic of Croatia has 50 inhabited islands in the Adriatic archipelago. Each of them represents small, autonomous, geographically isolated area in the most cases without own resources (water, electricity and fossil fuels). Fortunately, all inhabited Croatian islands are connected to mainland grid by undersea cables which represent certain security of electricity supply. On the other hand some of undersea cables are often out of function and because of constant increase of tourist arrivals during summer, which is the main reason for growth of electricity consumption and peaks, some of the islands will soon have to increase capacities of connections or they will have to install new generating units. In spite of considerable potential of wind and solar energy, the utilization of renewable energy sources is generally very low on the Croatian Islands. There is only one bigger wind farm on the Island of Pag with installed power of 5.95 MW. On the track of researches that promote renewable energy sources and decentralized energy generation, investigation of various combinations of technologies has been carried out in the case of the Island of Mljet in southern Dalmatian archipelago.
