Sažetak
Fluorescent spectroscopy is an attractive technique for measuring concentrations of important ions and molecules [1]. Among biologically important analytes, H+ and Ca2+ have a pivotal role in regulating many processes. Therefore it is of high importance to develop better reagents for these ions. In search for good fluorescent reagents, we turned our attention to compounds composed of pyrrole subunits. Pyrroles are building blocks for biologically important pigments (e.g. heme, chlorophyll), as well as synthetic dyestuffs such as BODIPY. In order to prepare fluorescent sensors for measuring intracellular Ca2+ concentration or pH, BODIPY was functionalized with an APTRA chelating group [2], or phenol moiety [3], respectively. Pyrrole compounds are characterized by the presence of acidic NH protons, which can be used for binding anions. In continuation of our research on the synthesis of chemical sensors, we plan to use pyrroles connected to polycyclic moieties.
