Sažetak
Reinforcement of dentures firstly included usage of metal wires or nets, resulting in partial improvement of flexural and impact strength. One of the attempts was usage of rubber phase in polymer pearls, produced by chemical modifications, known as high impact strength resins. Further approach was incorporation of different fibers into denture base polymer. Specimens dimensions 18x10x3 mm were made of polymer, polymer reinforced with glass fibers, and high impact strength resin, and tested with short beam test after ageing procedures. Bonding between fibers and matrix was examined using light microscope. Fiber reinforced polymer and high impact resin showed higher flexural strength (167.65-156.25 MPa) than common polymer (P<0.05), while between them there was no difference (P>0.05). Ageing procedures revealed significant influence (P<0.05) on flexural strength. Improvement in flexural strength of removable dentures can be obtained using fiber reinforcements and/or high impact strength resins.
