Sažetak
Objective. To analyze the influence of work attitude on working ability of those affected by PTSD. Subjects and methodology. The research was conducted during three years (1997-2000) on Psychiatric Clinic, Clinical Hospital Osijek, Croatia. The sample consisted of 160 subjects, according to the following criteria: a diagnosis established in relation to criteria of DSM-IV for chronic combat-related PTSD, with no differences in the degrees of PTSD manifest, the age between 18 – 45 years ; both genders. The subjects were divided into two groups, each consisting of 80 subjects— assessed and estimated by psychiatrist who treated them as able to work (first group) and unable to work (second group). A classical psychiatric interview and inspection of patients medical history was done. Work attitude of the patients, of the significant others for the patients, and of the psychiatrist who treated the patient was measured by the semantic differential method. The data collected during the research were statistically calculated through statistical package SAS with  2-test, Wilcoxon Scores and Median Scores, non-parametric tests. Results. According to demographic data, the participating groups were not differing from one another. No differences in terms of attitudes toward work between the groups were found. Work attitude of the significant person within the family is the major factor, which indirectly (through work attitude of those who are affected) influences working ability of those affected by PTSD. The attitude toward work of the psychiatrist that treated the patient did not affect significantly on working ability of those affected.
