Sažetak
This paper examines the interaction of focus structure and syntax, specifically, the interplay of the rigidity vs. flexibily of each with the other. There turn out to be all four predicted language types: rigid syntax, flexible focus structure, e.g. English; flexible syntax, rigid focus structure, e.g. Italian; flexible syntax, flexible focus structure, e.g. Russian; rigid syntax, rigid focus structure, e.g. French.
