Sažetak
It is known that in the past century rural areas, under the influence of modernizations in agricultural production and development of technologies, become more and more abandoned. These trends bring to depopulation of rural areas in developed countries of Europe as well as in our country. However, in last twenty years rural tourism and specially agrotourism, as a form of tourist activity on family farms, in developed countries of Europe has influenced on the rural areas in such way that these negative trends slowly start to change in other way. Namely, the main role of rural areas is not only primary production then rural areas and their specific qualities are offering as the special forms of tourist offer. On the global level there is a demand for the type of tourist offer which is based on the existing natural resources, attractive surroundings and preserved landscape, cultures and traditions of villages and country way of life. With primary research, which is carried out in August and September of 2002, it has been determined the actual situation on the agro tourist market in Istria, the region with the largest number of agrotourism households, from which are evident development trends. According to this research it has been defined segmentation of agro tourist market according to demographic, geographic and socio-economic characteristics and characteristic in terms of escort on the travelling. Furthermore, motives of arrivals have been determined and how consumers of agrotourism households in Istria gather information about specific agrotourism household.
