Sažetak
The UN Convention on Children's Rights guarantees children that all those taking care of them, parents and the state alike, will always give priority to the best interest of the child. It is therefore very important to constantly verify to what extent do we adhere to this important principle in our everyday life, but also in other occasional activities such as scholarly work and research which involve children. The perception of families in general, including such families where the care of children was taken over by the state or private intervention system, so that children were sent to a children's home or some institution for children with behavioural disorders, comes from experts and is influenced by their perspective, theories and information. In contrast to this, the research project called "Socio-pedagogical Diagnoses - Beneficiaries’ Participation in Assessment of Needs and Intervention Planing"1 focuses on the perspective of the user, children and the youth. The user's perspective (or using the language of the Convention on Children's Rights - the right to free expression of one's viewpoints on all issues concerning children) was made possible because, on several occasions, a group of specially prepared experts interviewed forty adolescents between 12 and 20, either placed in halfway houses (13) or involved in the assessment of needs (diagnostics) in specialised institutions for children and the youth with behavioural disorders (27).
