Sažetak
The aim of this study was to analyse the mechanical behabiour of a tooth restored with two different types of endodontic posts, prefabricated glass fibre posts and composite core vs cast post and core. A natural tooth was considered as a reference model. Method: The distribution of the stresses in the two different occlusal conditions were investigated. The first condition represented the so-called normal occlusion with tripodal occlusal contacts. The second condition represented a malocclusion with a single contact on the palatal cusp. Models had more than 1.5 million elements and a total force of 200N was applied. Results: In the case of a normal occlusion, stress distribution was mainly in compression, except in the fissure where stress was tensile. This is the same for sound and restored teeth. Dissimilarity exists in the values of the stresses. Endodontic posts take some of the stress on themselves and values are smalkler on the surface of the tooth. Tnbesile stresses in the malocclusion occur at the tooth cervix of both the sound and restored tooth. At the root furcation, tensile stress appeared only in the restored tooth. Significantly higher tensile stress values were recorded for the cast post and core restored tooth. In the case of a normal occlusion, žtensile stress at the root furcation occurs only in the model with a cast post and core. Conclusions: The post and core modified the stress distribution in the tooth, therefore increasing the possibility for root fracture. Cast posts resulted in significantly higher tensile stress values and these stresses are harmful for the tooth tissue.
