Sažetak
The spherical model of interests has emerged recently in the field of vocational psychology. Its most prominent characteristic is the emphasis on prestige as a relevant determinant of one's vocational choice. The prestige includes a set of personal and occupational characteristics, like occupational status, income, years of education, and responsibility on job. Personal Globe Inventory (PGI) has been created as a measure of the spherical model of interests. PGI measures 18 vocational interests differing according to the type of work and prestige. It is designed for vocational guidance purposes: for each client the information on dominant interests and best matching occupations are presented. The Croatian version of Personal Globe Inventory was administered to a sample of approximately 600 students. In this work the appropriateness of given vocational advices and accuracy of congruence estimates are analysed with regard to prestige. The practical benefit of inclusion of prestige is apparent when analysing concurrent validity of PGI: the prediction of enrollment in specific educational programs is more accurate when the measure of prestige was added to the interest measures. The importance of prestige measurement in vocational guidance and congruence research is being discussed.
