Sažetak
Crisis is defined as psychological state caused by the critical event after which the usual coping mechanisms are not effective or not available.Since sense of control i, as one of the main modearting variables which enables persons to overcome stresfull experience, is severely diminished in crisis situation, the more important becomes the buffering or modearting effect of another variable: social support. It has been assumed that pets, to which many owners are strongly attached, can provide emotional support and instrumental help that are two types of social supports. Since person in crisis can negatively react to offered human support it might be important to recognize the possibilities of bonding with pets and animals in order to restore psychological balance and general well-being after crisis situation. Studies have shown that pets can offer significant emotional support after such critical events such as bereavement, serious illness and even war. It can be also suggested that role of the animals should be considered in varety of other contexts, specially those involving family crisis, natural disasters and stresfull working settings.
