Sažetak
The limited resurces and environmental consequences of traffic system expansion represent general problems in planning and the policy for cities and their regions. Telecommuting, as a method of working from home is becoming increasingly accepted regarding the existing busness environment and development trends. The increased implementation of telecommuting reduces the need for the number of journeys, thus changing the transport demand within urban areas. The paper describes the implementation of new communication technologies, in relation of transport, and the influence on the development of urban regions by describing the urban structure and distances through social and technological constraints increase in the space and distance standard, home-workplace distance, “ time-space” convergence, transport expansion and the opportunities for exurban lifestyle and the attractiveness and urban expansion. The savings in travel time allow higher productivity, reduction of the everyday travelled mileage, reduction in the demand for transport infrastructure and parking.
