Sažetak
Precipitation processes of carbonate particles of different size, shape, and surface properties have been intensively investigated due to their importance in geo- and biosciences, and in numerous industrial applications. This study describes and discusses a conceptually new method for the precipitation of calcium carbonate polymorphs, effectuated through catalytic decomposition of urea at elevated temperatures and by using Canavalia ensiformis urease enzyme at ambient conditions in solutions of calcium salts. It was found that the formation of different polymorphs of calcium carbonate at elevated temperatures was affected mostly by agitation and by the mixing procedures of reacting solutions. This study has also confirmed that the enzyme macromolecules are important in the development of calcite faces and, as such, they exert significant influence on calcite morphology.
