Sažetak
The Institute was founded by a decree of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (renamed into Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1992) on 27 December 1947. The decree was implemented during 1948, which is therefore taken as the foundation year of the Institute. The Institute is a state-owned research institution which was under the authority of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia until 2003. Since 2004, the Institute is under authority of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. From 1974 to 1993, The Institute was a member of the University of Zagreb. Due to legislation introduced in 1993, this affiliation terminated for all research institutes, including our own. Until 1992 the Institute incorporated a Section of Anthropology. In that year, the Section became the Institute for Anthropology, and our own Institute was its founder.
