Sažetak
Fundia in 1994 observed an increaased frequency of chromosome aberrations in adult coeliac patients compared to healthy control. which may be related to higher risk of malignancies, known to occure in those patients. No similar investigation has been performed in children. We therefore conducted a prospective study with the aim to assess the frequency of human chromosome aberrations in children with untreated and to compare it to healthy controls and to infants with other chronic enteropathies. This investigation included 18 children with untreated coeliac disease confirmed by a typical jejunal biopsy and a good recovery on a gluten-free diet, 13 healthy controls and 10 infants with chronic diarrhoea of non-coeliac origin. Chromosomes were analysed on slides obtained by peripheral blood cell culture. 100 G-banded metaphases were studied for each individual. This investigation revealed significantly higher frequency of chromosomal aberrations and aberrant lymphocytes in patients with coeliac disease and in children with other chronic enteropathies when compared to healthy controls. The results of this investigation may indicate that chronic intestinal inflammation , and not exclusively CD is related to the increased level of chromosme aberrations.
