Sažetak
Necrosis, cysts, haemorrhage and calcification represent common findings in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Different lesions, including arteriosclerosis and/or fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD), may involve the main renal artery. We analyzed the relationship between extent of necrosis in RCC with renal artery changes in a consecutive series of 112 patients (M:F=71:41) with RCC from 2-20 cm (mean 7.7). Necrosis was seen macroscopically and confirmed microscopically in 88 (78.6%) cases, with 64 tumours having less than 50% and 24 more than 50% necrosis. FMD was found in 41 (36.6%) patients (M:F=17:24) and atherosclerotic changes in 21 (18.8%) patients (M:F=18:3). Our results suggest that necrosis of RCC was significantly more common in female patients with associated FMD (especially type-I) and male patients with atherosclerotic changes of renal artery
