Sažetak
Comparing the years 1990 and 1997, Croatia's foreign trade with western Mediterranean countries shows a significant deficit growth. The import-export ratio in 1990 was 87,72%, whereas in 1997 it was 53,08%. The paper analyzes the direction of Croatia's foreign trade with France, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain, and indicates the unresolved problems and some possible solutions. On the other hand, as the largest export mainstay of Croatia is tourism, the existing situation and the underlying reasons for the still underexploited market potentials with western Mediterranean countries are reviewed. Viewpoints are given which should lead to much better results.
