Sažetak
According to the ISO 3685 standard by adopting a previously chosen tool wear criterion, the tool life is obtained from experimental data which report monitoring of the tool's flank wear progression at discrete machining times. Thus, the data collected along the tool wear tests are not fully exploited. In this paper a new approach to tool life modelling that is independent of a specific value of tool wear criterion is proposed, based on the idea that it is possible to directly link the tool's flank wear progression to the cutting regime and machining time. The possibility of fully exploiting the collected data through tool wear testing is potentially interesting for industrial use since this can help in gaining additional information without performing time consuming and expensive additional tests.
