Sažetak
The purpose of our research was to assess the actual contribution and the potential uses of the cybernetic approach to understanding and predicting of demographic processes. At the methodological basis of our investigation lies the premise that the anthropologically relevant aspects of population changes can be expressed as quantitative cybernetic relations. For our test case we have chosen the population inhabiting the territory of the present Republic of Croatia. Analyses of the results obtained by use of the cybernetic model we have developed earlier (LOPI) show up to 90% congruence between simulated and recorded population dynamics over a period of several hundred years. In the discussion we try to show how the explanatory and predictive force of the model can be enhanced by adding new constants and reducing the number of controllable model variables.
