Sažetak
Approximately 400 km of motorways with two lanes in each direction have so far been built in Croatia. According to long- term plans proposed by the Government, it would still be necessary to build as much as 1500 km of motorways in order to provide for a more efficient and safer transport of persons and goods, particulary in the direction of tourist destinations on the Croatian part of Adriatic. as some sections of future motorways in fact coincide with routes of the existing lower- rank national roads, the issue of adjusting pavement of such roads to the level of roads with highest level of serviceability (motorways) is considered at the stage of design preparation. This issue is addressed in the case of two sections of the future motorway passing through the continental part of Croatia, i. e. from Zagreb towards the west (Ljubljana) and from Zagreb towards the east (Belgrade). This paper is based on information aquired during pavement studies for these two sections.
