Sažetak
We have prepared and structurally characterized the first examples of doubly ortho-palladated azobenzenes. The structures of complexes were determined by elementary analysis, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopies, and X-ray diffraction. The products were additionally characterized by UV-vis, IR and fluorimetric spectroscopies. The experimental investigation was complemented by DFT (BP86/SDD/6-31G(d, p)) quantum-chemical calculations in order to provide rational explanation of the structures by comparison of their energies with other conceivable isomers. Two metalated phenyl rings and two easily replaceable solvent ligands make these complexes excellent building blocks for designing a wide variety of metallomesogenes, organometallic polymers and even more elaborate supramolecular systems.
