Sažetak
When planning the construction of a new intersection, or reconstructing an already existing one, we get in a position when we have to define one of the existing typical solutions that would be optimal in given circumstances. When defining an individual typical solution we, in order to avoid subjective judgements, have to verify whether global criteria are met (criteria of functionality, criteria of porosity, criteria of space, traffic-technical criteria, criteria of traffic safety and economic criteria). The verification of the legitimacy of implementing an individual typical solution in terms of traffic safety causes most problems, because we lack suitable tools, criteria, or a universal approach. Moreover, there is no way to compare different typical solutions with each other. The methodology shown in this paper comes from two research papers that the authors made for the Slovenian Direction for Roads. The major advantage of the proposed methodology is that it already enables the assessment of the level of traffic safety during the selection of an individual typical solution, therefore before the project documentation has been drawn up.The proposed methodology is uniform and can be used for analysing all types of intersections on one level. The methodology has been tested on a sample of 36 intersections, and the results so obtained match well the actual situation.
