Sažetak
Passenger railway station Rijeka is 132 years old, located in the western part of the today's city centre and physically covering a limited space. In the future, the passenger railway station Rijeka needs to change its role, i.e. a second track should pass through it, thus providing new conditions for efficient urban – suburban railway traffic. Rijeka will be connected with Zagreb by a double track railway line, and then with Istria and Slovenia, the electrification system will be changed, and new trains of high-quality service will be introduced. All this requires also new solutions for the passenger railway station. Therefore, apart from evaluating the current situation at the passenger railway station, the paper deals with the future conditions, traffic forecasts, technical-technological parameters, the capacity dimensioning and offers new preliminary solutions incorporated in the possible space and on the whole into the terminal of the long-distance passenger traffic in Rijeka.
