Sažetak
All societies in Eastern Europe strive , in a postcommunist era, for economic development, though there is specific and salient role of modernization, religion church, and ethnicity. The latter is of a major concern in post-Yugoslav societies, even for the role of gender in new polities. Authors inquire this role in Slovenia and Croatia and illuminate the importance of a modernized, democratic state with a strong civic culture (Slovenia) for the position of women.
