Sažetak
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that mostly occurs in children. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that eosinophils play an active role in the pathogenesis of atopic disorders. Eosinophil cationic protien (ECP) is a cytotoxic agent secreted by activated eosinophils during allergic and inflammatory processes. Elevated levels of ECP have been detected in serum, sputum or nasal secretion during allergic reactions. Therefore serum concentrations of this protien might be a useful in vitro parameter in monitoring disease activity in patients with AD. For the evaluation of patients with AD, we performed standard diagnostic procedures and measured serum ECP levels. In order to objectively assess the severity of AD and SCORAD bindex was calculated. The SCORAD index was developed in 1993 by the European Task Force on Atopic Dermatitis and in nowadays accepted as a relatively simple and reporucible method for assessment of the disorder. In this paper, results obtained at our Department in the evaluation of patients with AD by the above mentioned methods are presented.
