Sažetak
In this prospective study, the occurence of respiratory allergy was investigated in the verified cases of atopic dermatitis (AD ; n=100), and compared with patients with chronic urticaria (n=50) and healthy controls (n=50). Complete history data (allergic rhinitis/conjuncitivitis, allergic bronchitis/asthma) were obtained from all study subjects. Skin reactivity was evaluated by intradermal and prick testing against standard series of inhalatory and nutritive allergens. The values of total IgE were measured by the RIST and ELISA methods. The blood eosinophil count was determined. In adults, respiratory atrophy was found in 27/80 (33.7%) of AD patients (allergic rhinitis/conjuncitivitis in 18/80 (22.5%), allergic bronchitis/asthma in 6/80 (7, 5%), and a combination of both in 3/80 (3.7%). Out of 20 AD children, 15 /75%) had pure AD, and five (25%) suffered from a "mixed" type of concomitant respiratory allergies. One fourth to one third of patients with AD had respiratory symptoms and skin manifestations of allergy (27/80 (33.7%) in adults and 5/20 (25%) in children).
