Sažetak
It is well known that the presence of electrolytes, depending on their concentration, significantly affects the formation of polyelectrolyte complexes in solution, as well as the formation of polyelectrolyte multilayers, and their erosion. In order to clarify the influence of added salt on abovementioned processes, the microcalorimetric titrations of cationic (polyvinyl-pyridinium iodide, PVP+I ) and anionic (poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate), Na+PSS ) polyelectrolytes with alkali metal salt solutions were performed. Different trends of the enthalpies measured for alkali iodides and alkali chlorides were observed. Additionally, the influence of alkali metal salts and ionic strength on formation of polyelectrolyte and polyelectrolyte/protein complexes (eg. PVP+/BSA complexes) was investigated and compared with the results obtained in our previous study on polyelectrolyte-protein multilayers.
