Sažetak
In the summer of 2005 the last sections of the Motorway Zagreb – Split were completed. This concluded over a decade long project of connecting the North and the South regions of Croatia. As such, the 380 km long Motorway provided a firm link between two biggest Croatian cities, crossing over a rough terrain including two major mountain forms of Mala Kapela and Velebit and extremely foundation demanding karst soil forms. The building process itself has lasted for only five years and presented a special challenge to all participants from Designers to Contractors of all specialties – traffic, geological, environment and construction engineers as well as many others. The road cross section is compliant with all the motorway specifications and it comprises three lanes for each direction. The much discussed layout of the motorway has set many environmental and geological restrictions for the engineers and the objects the motorway comprises. This called for the innovative design approach and solutions that would compliment the aesthetics, environment, durability, maintenance and economical issues. Also one of the important parameters in the whole project was the work dynamics with extremely short deadlines so the selected technology had to be compliant. As such, bridges that were build, some larger and many smaller, had to follow all the guidelines above. This paper will describe some of them with their characteristics and special features. Type of the bridges described are overpasses, viaducts, animal crossings and canyon bridges.
