Sažetak
This paper is dealing with analysis of operational hail suppression activities in northern Croatia. The basic idea was to estimate number of seeded artificial ice nuclei during hail suppression activities and to investigate possible connections with hailfalls. Ten cases of operational seeding of hail clouds were selected on the basis of sufficient data set collection. For the purpose of estimation of achieved artificial ice nuclei (AIN) concentrations in seeded hail clouds, a special simple method was applied. Vertical mass flow velocity was simulated for several values and in this paper only two cases are presented: for w1 = 6 m/s and for w2 = 20 m/s. Estimated achieved artificial ice nuclei concentrations in seeded clouds for w1 were within range 2*104 and 7*105 ; for w2 within range 8*103 and 2*105 AIN/m3 . In cases of small vertical velocity, artificial ice nuclei concentrations were continuously over 2*104 , but in the cases of high vertical velocity AIN concentrations were falling down to natural level. The comparison with ground observations data gives indications of the existence of connection, but due to small number of cases it was impossible to have final conclusions. The preliminary analysis indicates that usually, after the decrease of AIN concentration, in time interval of about 10 to 12 minutes, the hailfall or its intensification observed on the ground.
