Sažetak
The economy of the ex-socialistic countries was based on the state, i.e. social owneship. After the political changes during the 90s, this type of proprietorship changed toward the ownership structure usual in the countries with the developed market economy. In the altered ownership structure, a special place belongs to the small enterprises. In this paper, we elaborate the qustion of competitiveness of small enterprises in the transitional countries, after the change in ownership structure. Our intention is to investigate, in the case of Croatia, how competitive are small enterprises in the circumstances of changed ownership structure, both on the domestic and foreign markets, and are there any additional requirements to be met in order to achieve the desired competitiveness
