Flail for soil demining; development demining machine; neutralization of AP and AT mines
Sažetak
An estimated 100 million landmines are strewn across our planet. It is known that at least 84 countries have large suspicious areas. All of these countries need to be cleaned from mine threat. In humanitarian demining of mine suspicious areas machines for mechanized demining are used. Most common are machines with flails for soil treatment to a certain depth, during which buried mines can be neutralized. In practice, detailed knowledge and understanding of flail design and operation is still not sufficient. That is why evaluation of flail performance, i.e. digging depth, soil treatment quality and ability to destroy smallest AP mines, is done through testing. This article is providing analytical model for flail calculations and design of basic flail parameters. Technological working speed and flail rpm are adjusted, interaction forces between flail hammers and soil based on force impulse of flail hammer, and shape of flail hammer and chain in relation to their durability are defined, and dimensions of working tool rotor and flails are determined. Calculation results were verified through testing of light and medium demining machines, according to CWA methodology i STANAG criteria. Flail destroys embedded AP and AT mines. Effects of AP mine explosion do not damage flail. AT mine activation can cause damage to some chains of the flail. Rotor of the flail remains undamaged and the machine is ready for further demining.
