Sažetak
The first organization of the Croatian biochemists was accomplished in 1957 when the Section of Biochemistry was founded within the Croatian Chemical Society. In1976, the Section became a society under the name Croatian Biochemical Society (Hrvatsko biokemijsko društvo: HBD). Since 2003, the name is Croatian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Hrvatsko društvo za biokemiju i molekularnu biologiju: HDBMB). Adherence to FEBS and IUB was first achieved through the Union of the Chemical Societies of Yugoslavia (in 1965) and later through the Union of the Biochemical Societies of Yugoslavia (in 1977). Since 1992, the Society is a direct member of FEBS and IUBMB. The seat of the Society is in Zagreb, and branches are in Rijeka, Split and Osijek. At present (August 2006), the Society has 431 members. The Society is led by a Board (president and eight members) elected at annual assemblies every second year. The main activity of the Society is to organize lectures by speakers from Croatia and from abroad, and to organize national and international meetings. The venue of these meetings is at different places of the country, and national meetings always include invited participants from abroad. Since its foundation, the Society is issueing an information bulletin for its members.
