Sažetak
Globalisation, liberalisation, deregulation and the use of the new information technology (IT) have been large challenges for the financial and nonfinancial institutions. Consequences of such changes are especially visible in banking sector because banks still are the most important financial institution. In order to adapt to the new economy and become more competitive, banks have to introduce modern technological innovations in their business and to make other structural changes. The information can be transferred through different channels - Internet or a telecommunications network. Through these channels banks' clients can make payments, investments or save. Banks give special attention to e-banking, distribution channels of theirs financial products to clients. Therefore, new economy has a large influence on the banks and banks clients' behaviour. The e-banking is becoming the key element for the future banking sector developments. Therefore current situation and trends in using credit cards, ATM machines, POS terminals and Internet banking in some transition countries is analysed. In Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina clients are increasingly using different e-banking channels. On the other side, banks are trying to cut costs and increase profitability. Paper analyse the advantages of using e-banking in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, this paper analyses some barriers of using this instrument in banking systems.
