Sažetak
The presented study, covering research from 2003 to 2005, gives a new data regarding the geographical distribution and the ecological features of the Cobitis elongatoides Bacescu et Maier species in Croatia. Material was collected using a 2, 5 kW electrofisher. The research included rivers (Kupa, Orljava, Česma and Lonja), smaller rivers (Ilova, Toplica, Rijeka, Pakra, Bijela, Subocka, Sloboština, Petrinjčica, Maja, Buzeta, Glina andf Voćinska Rijeka), brooks (Šanja, Utinja, Peratovica, Grđevica, Barna and Lendava) and channels (Veliki Strug, Mali Strug) in central Croatia (Sava and Drava river basin). The upper and the lower parts of each stream were defined. The saprobic index was estimated, while for some rivers the existing data was used concering the water quality of Croatia. The substrate of the studied streams in the upper courses were defined. Most of the streams were environmentally relatively well preserved, with a small number of settlements and different types of microhabitats. C. elongatoides was found in all studied streams, mainly in the lower courses with a relatively numerous populations. Fish species which accompanied C. elongatoides were recorded (Eudontomyzon mariae, Misgurnus fossilis, Sabanejewia balcanica, Barbus balcanicus, Cyprinus carpio, Alburnoides bipunctatus, Esox lucius, Silurus glanis and other).
